It’s a common misconception
That the louder you speak
The more people will hear
The better they will understand
It was something like that
I’m not quite sure
But I’d employed that same logic
On a sunny afternoon
I’d shouted
Rather than spoken
At you
I thought you’d better understand
What was in my heart
My passion
So I’d stupidly said
The words you’d warned me not to
I thought it’d make you stay
But I realised I was wrong
The moment you turned around
And met my eyes with shame
And embarrassment
And anger
I realised I was wrong when you carried on walking in the opposite direction
And left me alone in the crowded streets
With tears and an unrequited love
